The challenge
Wipro asked Image Events to organise their annual employee events incorporating a 5k fun run, hospitality and entertainment at two different locations in Inverness and south east England.
Wipro Technologies is the leading global consulting and outsourcing company and supports many large corporations across six continents operating in financial services, media, logistics, energy, government, engineering and construction, communications and healthcare. They wanted to celebrate the spirit of Wipro with outdoor events that brought their employees, families, business partners and customers together.
Imagine’s aim was to build on the success of managing the event in south east England for nine years and to bring the same excitement and spectacle to Scotland in the new location of Inverness to reflect Wipro’s presence in the city.
Imagine Events solution
Managing and running a large sporting event requires a whole host of different skills to dealing with indoor exhibitions and displays. But it’s all in a day’s work for us at Imagine Events.
We worked closely with the client’s in-house team to select an appropriate venue for the run and other associated events. These Spirit of Wipro events have grown over the years, so it was important that we had a space that was suitable for runners, spectators and children and that would provide enough to capture everyone’s imagination on the day.
Planning a 5k run route meant working with the very supportive campus management team and when we had to route it along some public roads, we had to work with specialist traffic management too. We liaised with local marquee suppliers, provided first aid cover and lined up hospitality and catering for the spectators as well as organising chip timing and photography for the runners.
This really was an event where we handled everything, so that all the client and their employees had to do was turn up and enjoy the day.
The result
The runners really enjoyed the flat tarmac and footpath running course and loved the fact that we used technology to provide accurate timing for their efforts. Watching their results come up on the screen near the finish arch really helped add a spirit of friendly competition.
Away from the run there was plenty to keep the rest of the family entertained with an inflatable slide and face painting for younger children. And the day ended with medal presentations and celebrations for both adults and younger runners.
